New Delhi: One of Indian cinema’s most versatile stars who has proven time and again that he is a force to be reckoned with is none other than Dhanush. Over a career spanning more than two decades and fifty films, the Tamil superstar has showcased his talent across languages, breaking boundaries and winning hearts globally.

While the Hindi audience still remembers him as the lover boy Kundan from Raanjhanaa (2013), his die-hard fans have seen him portray multiple roles way before his Bollywood debut. In recent years, some of his Tamil films have not only been critically acclaimed but have also smashed box office records.

Dhanush’s highest-grossing movies

Here’s a breakdown of Dhanush’s highest-grossing movies that highlight his box office dominance and prove why he remains one of the most bankable stars in Tamil cinema. Scroll down to read about them!

1. Raayan (2024)

Dhanush’s latest film Raayan took the box office by storm. Directed by Dhanush himself, this A-rated film has become his highest-grossing movie to date, collecting a staggering Rs 150 crore worldwide. The film marked the Shamitabh actor’s 50th outing and exceeded expectations despite its modest pre-release buzz. Audiences were pleasantly surprised when the advance bookings for Raayan soared, turning it into the highest-grossing Tamil film of the year so far.

2. VAATHI (2023)

Vaathia period action-drama, saw Dhanush stepping into the shoes of a teacher fighting to protect the education system. The film resonated deeply with viewers, earning Rs 106 crore worldwide. Dhanush’s role as the inspiring educator reminded fans of his ability to seamlessly blend socially relevant themes with mainstream appeal. With Vaathi, he extended his streak of Rs 100 crore hits to three consecutive years.

3. Thripakram (2022)

Dhanush’s first entry into the Rs 100 crore club came with Thromuchrama romantic comedy-drama that became one of the highest-grossing Tamil films of 2022. The movie collected an impressive Rs 104 crore worldwide. Furthermore, Thromuchram broke the myth that small, concept-driven films can’t succeed in the post-pandemic era.

4. Raanjhanaa (2013)

While originally not a Tamil film, Dhanush’s Bollywood debut project Raanjhanaa remains a cult classic. Directed by Aanand L. Rai, the romantic drama earned Rs 94 crore worldwide, making it his highest-grossing film for nearly a decade. His portrayal of Kundan, a devoted yet flawed lover, earned him widespread acclaim and introduced him to Hindi-speaking audiences. Now, fans are eagerly awaiting his upcoming Bollywood project Tere Ishq Mein which is a spiritual sequel to Raanjhanaa.

5. Captain Miller (2023)

Despite being considered a box office underperformer, Captain Miller managed to gross Rs 69 crore worldwide, securing its place among Dhanush’s top five films. Released during the competitive Pongal season, the film faced tough competition but still delivered a solid opening.

A period action-drama, Captain Miller had the potential to become a much bigger success. However, mixed word-of-mouth reviews hampered its box office run. Even so, the film showcased Dhanush’s ability to pull off larger-than-life roles.
