Police have arrested three people for the murder of Himanshu Sonkar, who was thrown into a river due to a love affair in Wazirganj area of Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh. West DCP revealed some shocking facts while revealing the case on Sunday. The deceased's wife Payal had a very extravagant lifestyle, which her husband could not afford, due to which she befriended Ayush.

Incident West DCP Vishwajeet Srivastava said that Pappu Sonkar had lodged a complaint on January 24, 2025, stating that his son Himanshu was called from home on the night of January 21, but he did not return. During investigation, it was found that Himanshu was taken to the river on the pretext of lighting a diya and pushed into the water. The police acted swiftly and arrested three suspects on January 26, 2025 - Himanshu's wife Payal Sonkar and two others Ayush Sonkar and Jackie Sonkar.

Earlier murder attempts

The DCP revealed that Himanshu and Payal's marriage appeared stable for the first three years, but tensions began to mount due to changes in Payal's behaviour. The family initially dismissed these issues as minor marital disputes. Eventually, they learnt that Payal had drifted away from Himanshu and had started a relationship with Ayush. About a year and a half ago, Payal and Ayush had planned to shoot Himanshu, but the attempt failed due to unknown reasons.

During interrogation, the accused confessed that the murder was prompted by the love affair between Payal and Ayush. They had tried to kill Himanshu earlier as well but failed. Knowing that he could not swim, they decided to push him into the river to make it look like a suicide. After the incident, all the three accused were arrested and sent to judicial custody.

Investigation is ongoing

Police have described the incident as a result of strained relationships and family disputes. Other aspects of the murder, including possible accomplices or motives, are being thoroughly investigated. Officers stressed their commitment to uncovering the whole truth and getting justice for the victim.
