have been missing for 21 days, and their disappearance remains a mystery.

The pair were last spotted on CCTV on January 7 at 2.12am in Market Street at Victoria Bridge.  launched a massive search and rescue operation in the days that followed, using national and local specialist police resources - including the marine and dive units, police , and air support - in the River Dee and Harbour areas in Aberdeen, without any success.

And now the force has now  for the Hungarian duo, who are part of a set of triplets. The police confirmed on Monday that "extensive and detailed searches" of the river and harbour had concluded. However, wider inquiries to find the sisters are still ongoing, including searches of coastal areas to the north and south of Aberdeen.

But what do we know about their final movements? A day before their disappearance, at 2:50pm on Monday, January 6, the  wearing rucksacks. Then, in the early hours of Tuesday, they were again caught on camera at the bridge.

This time, they spent five minutes on the footpath but did not engage with anyone else before seemingly vanishing. Henrietta's mobile also sent a test to the sisters’ landlady around that time, at 2.12am, informing them that they would be terminating their tenancy. Their location was identified and placed around the Victoria Bridge area at the time of the text.

The mobile was subsequently disconnected from the network and has not been found active since then. The next day, the Huszti’s personal belongings were found in their flat by their landlady, who reported her concerns about their safety to the police.

CCTV footage also shows that after visiting the bridge on January 6, the sisters made their way through the city centre via the Union Square shopping centre and proceeded to head back to their house in the Charlotte Street area.

Reports indicate that there is no evidence suggesting the sisters left their flat again until shortly before they were last seen at the River Dee. During their last sighting on January 7, the pair crossed the bridge and turned right onto a footpath next to the river, heading towards the Aberdeen Boat Club.

Described as white women of slim build with long, brown hair, there’s nothing in the sister’s disappearance that suggests criminality or suspicious circumstances, according to police officers. Superintendent David Howieson previously said: “We have carried out a significant trawl of public and private CCTV footage as we try to establish the sisters’ movements. Several hours of footage are being examined by a dedicated team of officers and we have so far established that Eliza and Henrietta were at the footpath next to the River Dee at 2.50pm on Monday January 6.

“Although the sisters didn’t engage with anyone else at this time, the area would have been busy and we are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen them. Please think back, did you notice anyone matching their description? After returning home, there is nothing to indicate that Eliza or Henrietta left their flat again until shortly before they were last seen at the River Dee. Extensive inquiries are ongoing and I would again stress there is nothing to suggest any suspicious circumstances or criminality.”

One police theory being considered is that the siblings somehow managed to enter the water, as there is "no evidence" that suggests that the women left the immediate Victoria Bridge area they were last spotted at. Mr Howieson said: “One of our theories has to be that they’ve entered the water for reasons unknown, and that’s why so much of our search activity is focused on the river, the river bank, and the harbour itself, but we’re not ruling out the fact that they may have left this area by means that we haven’t identified yet.”

He shared that the police doesn’t want to speculate on the likelihood but are “open minded” and have a theory which involves the siblings “entering the water as a potential”, however the force has been unable to conclude that the timeline of their movements continues on from that, as they haven’t been able to establish that through their enquiries.

Superintendent Howieson further commented: “We remain in regular contact with Eliza and Henrietta’s family in Hungary and we will continue to provide them with support at this very difficult time. Searches will continue in the coming days and our officers will continue to do everything they can to find Eliza and Henrietta.”

Theories surrounding the sisters' disappearance have flooded the internet, with : "Sadly, the more info that comes out, the more it looks like they chose to end their lives. Scoping out the location earlier in the day, texting the landlord at 2:12am saying they weren't coming back, leaving all their belongings in the flat.. Hard to make sense of these facts in another way. Odd though that their last msg would be to the landlord."

trying to understand their tragic disappearance said: "Last seen near a bridge. Did someone pick them up? Offer them a lift? It's very unusual for both to go missing. Did one fall into the water and the other one was trying to save her?"

The sisters moved to around seven years ago and had reportedly been saving up to buy their own home. In an interview with the , their brother Jozsef confirmed that the sisters had not informed any of their relatives of their decision to “immediately” move out of their rented accommodation, which included a phone call they had with their mother on January 4, just days before their disappearance.

Jozsef said: “They wrote a message to their landlady that they wanted to immediately end their tenancy agreement. We didn’t have any information about that. So that’s the strange thing, that the girls didn’t tell us anything about that. They never mentioned any such plan.”

Another thing that their brother found strange was that Eliza and Henrietta had only taken one mobile phone with them the night they vanished, a detail that was revealed to the family after the police’s investigation into the sisters’ movements.

Since their disappearance, claims have been made by around the time the sisters are thought to have gone missing. One resident told : "Everyone is talking about this. It was pretty scary stuff. A woman screaming out in the darkness is going to raise some red flags. But it’s not entirely clear what the noises were. No one has been able to establish whether or not they are definitely connected to the girls."

Detectives are currently not treating their disappearance as suspicious and don’t think anyone else is involved.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 0735 of Tuesday 7 January, 2025.
