fans were less than impressed after both teams on failed to answer a question about the late Rob Burrow. The newest instalment saw Cardiff take on Queen's University Belfast in a place in the quarter-finals.
Hosted by Amol Rajan, one question centred around the late sporting legend and rugby player Rob Burrow, who died last June after a long battle with motor neurone disease (MND).
The question read in full was: "Which former Leeds Rhinos player was made an MBE in the 2021 New Year's Honours list for services to rugby and to motor neurone disease awareness, having been diagnosed with MND in 2019?"
However, both Cardiff and Queen's University Belfast didn't respond and failed to answer the question, prompting Amol to ask: "Anyone?"
After a period of silence, Amol said: "No - I'll tell you. It was the great Rob Burrow."
Viewers who tuned in to watch were left scratching their heads that both teams didn't know who Rob Burrow was. One person said on X: "Some things they know are staggering but how on Earth did nobody know about Rob Burrow? #UniversityChallenge."
A second also echoed: "As an Irish person, I was really delighted with QUB. But yeah, really disappointed that no-one knew Rob Burrow. I hope it wasn't generational, Rob was a total legend."
A third also typed: "Nobody knew Rob Burrow... #UniversityChallenge."
One viewer was more sympathetic with the teams, typing: "I guess they're quite young students... And maybe haven't been watching mainstream telly."
Ultimately, Cardiff failed to make it to the next round, with Amol summarising: "And at the gong, Cardiff have 70 points and Queen's University Belfast have 180."
When he gave some words of wisdom, he stated: "Cardiff, you've got to be present for the first 20 minutes of the game!"
University Challenge airs on Monday evenings on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer.
