A UK city renowned for its buzz and creativity is actually the rudest a survey of people living there found.

Straddling the River Avon in the southwest of England, attracts millions of visitors every year who flock to explore Brunel's SS Great Britain, the Clifton Suspension Bridge, or enjoy the city's lively atmosphere.

However, those visiting the largest city in the southwest may not receive the warmest of welcome from the locals, if results from a recent poll are anything to go by.

Bristol is officially the rudest city in the UK, according to who surveyed more than 1,500 residents of the 30 largest metropolitan areas in the UK. The e-learning platform asked locals to rate the rudeness of the average resident in their city on a scale of 1 to 10.

And Bristol, home to street artist and political activist Banksy, came out on top with a rudeness score of 5.84.

Preply found that the most common rude behaviours include people being absorbed by their phones, being noisy in public and not acknowledging strangers.

To calculate the rudest and most polite cities, participants were asked to answer how often they witness 12 common disrespectful behaviours where they reside.

Bristolians may also be more susceptible to rude behaviours and were more self-critical when responding to the survey's questions.

Coming in second place was Hull. The city came out with a rudeness score of 5.74.

According to Preply, people from Hull have two terrible traits: they're the noisiest people in the country and they're the worst offenders for failing to respect people's personal space.

Rounding up the top three with a rudeness score of 5.7 is a cathedral city and metropolitan borough in the West Midlands county.

Those wishing to visit to Coventry will recieve less than a warm welcome, according to the report.

Londoners have somewhat of a reputation of being less friendly than people from other areas of the country. However, the capital placed sixth with a rudenees score of 5.54.
