Concussion Substitute Rule: In the fourth T20I match played in Pune on Friday, India defeated England by 15 runs and captured the series 3–1. In this match, Harshit Rana, a conversion substitute for India, took three important wickets and served as a game changer. However, after the defeat of England, controversy has arisen over the inclusion of Harshit Rana as Shivam Dubey's replacement. The current England captain Jose Butler and former captain Michael Vaughan have raised questions about this.
Concisition Substitute's Rule
According to the ICC, if any Khiladi suffers a head or eye injury during the match, the new player can be included as a replacement under the rule of Concussion Substitute. However, the substance should be like for likes (uniform). That is, if the injured player is Alal Rounder, then only an all -rounder can be included in the remaining match. Claus 1.2.7.3.4 of the rule explained this. However, the fourth T20I included Harshit Rana as a conversion substitute of batting all rounder Shivam Dubey, who is originally a bowler.
Jose Butler raised questions after losing the match
England team captain Jose Butler said after the defeat in the fourth match and losing the series, 'It was not a like to like replacement. We do not agree with this. Either Shivam Dubey has increased the speed of about 25 mph in bowling or Harshit has improved his batting a lot (tightening). It is part of the game and we should actually win the match, but we disagree with the decision. “
Butler further said, “No opinion was taken from us. While landing for batting, I was thinking that for whom Harshit has come on the field? Harshit is a convention replacement for Dubey! I clearly disagree with this. This like to like replacement is not from anywhere. The Indian team management said that the match referee (Jawagal Srinath) had taken this decision. We had nothing to do with it or in any part of it. But we will ask Jawagal (match referee) some questions so that some clarity can be found about it. ”
Apart from Butler, former captain Michael Vaughan has also raised questions about the inclusion of Harshit Rana as a conversion substitute. He wrote in the X post, “How a full fast bowler can come on the field instead of a batsman who bowls part time !!!!!!!!!”
