The gerd occurs when the muscle located in the lower part of the esophagus, which is called lower esophageal sphincter (LES), becomes weak or not properly closed. This causes the stomach acid back into the esophagus and causes irritation, causing frequent belching. If it is not treated, gerd can lead to serious conditions such as esophagitis, stricter or barrett esophagus, which eventually increases the risk of esophagel cancer.

GERD prevention measures

Keep the weight under control – excess weight can increase pressure on the stomach, which can further increase the symptoms of gerd.
Avoid lying after eating-Avoid lying down for at least 2-3 hours after meals, so that the food can be digested properly.
Limit smoking and alcohol consumption – smoking and alcohol can weaken the les, which may increase the chances of acid reflux.
