Energy firm EDF Energy is handing customers free electricity on one February date.

If you're planning an evening out on Valentine's Day, you might want to consider swapping your plans to a night in instead thanks to latest offer.

The supplier is offering four hours of free electricity from 7pm to 11pm on Friday, February 14.

While making a week's worth of meals, running the tumble dryer and blasting the might not sound like the most romantic night possible, those who are savvy with the offer could make a huge saving on their monthly bills by cranking up their usage within the free four-hour window.

To qualify for the offer, customers must sign up to Sunday Saver Challenge by 11.59pm on February 13.

The challenge works by asking households to move some of their usage away from peak times. The more you shift usage, the more free electricity you earn.

said: "Everyone who signs up for the challenge will get a target to shift some of their electricity usage away from peak hours (usually 4pm to 7pm).(1) The more you shift during the week, the more free electricity you can earn. For example, if you shift 40% of your peak usage, you can earn up to 16 free hours to use the following Sunday."

As well as those free Sunday hours, those signed up will be given free hours on Valentine's Day evening, too.

EDF added: "Get four hours of free electricity this Valentine's Day!

We're sharing the love to our customers by offering four hours of free electricity(2) this Valentine's Day!

Simply sign up for a reminder to our next Sunday Saver challenge by 11:59pm, February 13. You'll automatically get four hours of free electricity to use between 7pm to 11pm, Friday 14 February."

To make best use of the offer, households should use high-energy appliances, including batch cooking meals, running their tumble dryer, using any electric heating and charging an EV.
