The country's leading food delivery company Zomato has decided to change its name. The decision to change the name has been approved in Zomato's board meeting. Zomato will now be known as Eternal. The company has informed about this in a regulatory filing to BSE.
Why did Zomato change the name?
Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal says that they were using the word Eternal for the company for a long time. He said, 'When we bought Blinkit, only then we started calling the parent company Eternal instead of Zomato. Its purpose is to differentiate between the company and the brand / app.'
Zomato's founder said that at that time we also thought that if any other product of ours other than Zomato becomes important for our future, then we will publicly change the name of the company to Eternal. Now the success of Blinkit has brought us to that point. We are changing the name of Zomato Limited, the company (not the brand and app) to Eternal.'
Reason for naming Eternal
Deepinder Goyal also explained the reason for naming Eternal. He said, 'Eternal is a powerful name. And honestly, it scares me from within. It will be a very difficult task to live up to it. Because 'Eternal' contains both a promise and a contradiction.'
He said, "This is not just a name change; it is a mission statement. This name is now a part of our identity, which will always remind us of our purpose."
What will be the name of the company in the stock market?
The real effect of changing the name of Zomato will be seen in the market. There the name of the company will change from Zomato to Eternal. It will represent all the subsidiaries of the company including Zomato. Till now Zomato has four big businesses.
The first among these is the food delivery platform Zomato itself. The second quick commerce is Blinkit, which delivers groceries and other essential items. Its District platform is used for booking movie and event tickets. On the other hand, the Hyperpure platform supplies vegetables and grocery items to restaurants at wholesale prices.
