SSLC exams are not just stressful for students but also for teachers and education department officials. While teachers strive for 100% results in their schools, department officials aim to secure top ranks for their respective districts or taluks. In this effort, the education department and several schools across Karnataka are implementing unique strategies to prepare students for the SSLC exams starting from March 21.

Some schools have taken extreme measures—teachers are staying overnight in schools to tutor students, and in some cases, they have adopted 10-12 students, closely monitoring their studies and progress.

Here’s a look at the different initiatives across districts:

Motivational Camps in Davangere

Government high schools in Davangere are conducting school-level and district-level tests to identify academically weak students. Special motivational camps are being organized for these students, with the participation of religious leaders and educational experts who will conduct engaging sessions to boost students’ morale and improve learning.

Scoring Packages in Chitradurga

To reduce failure rates, Chitradurga district has introduced two special study modules—’Passing Package’ and ‘Scoring Package’. A unique curriculum called ‘Ganithada Gani’ has been designed to help students overcome their fear of mathematics. Additionally, teachers make phone calls every morning at 5 AM to students and their parents to guide them towards scoring higher marks.

Special Focus on Slow Learners in Dakshina Kannada

Dakshina Kannada aims to secure the top rank this academic year by implementing a specialized strategy. Out of 28,612 SSLC students, 4,742 have been identified as slow learners. These students are assigned to specific teachers who provide them with extra coaching in difficult subjects. Digital learning tools like the ‘DIKSHA App’ and e-learning resources are being used to enhance their learning experience.

Motivational Classes in Udupi

Udupi district, consistently ranked among the top three in SSLC results, is leaving no stone unturned to secure the first place this year. Special and additional coaching sessions have been conducted since the beginning of the academic year. A customized study plan is designed for each student based on their learning capabilities, and teachers call students and parents at 5 AM daily to ensure disciplined study routines.

‘Aasare’ Initiative in Haveri

Haveri district, where 22,000 students are appearing for the SSLC exam, has identified 3,000 students as academically weak. To support them, a special book titled ‘Aasare’ has been created, covering six subjects in a simplified manner. Selected residential schools in each taluk will provide free accommodation and meals for three days while conducting intensive training sessions for these students.

20-Point Program in Bidar

Bidar, which has struggled with poor SSLC results, has introduced a 20-point improvement program. This includes special subject coaching, forming student groups, assigning teachers to adopted students, and conducting regular mock tests. Private organizations have adopted government schools and are assisting in reaching out to students through phone calls. The goal is to improve the pass percentage by at least 15%.

Teachers Stay Overnight in Schools in Bagalkote

At Kumbalahalli Government High School (RMSA) in Jamakhandi taluk, teachers, under the guidance of Headmaster Narayana Shastri, are conducting door-to-door visits to motivate students. Boys stay overnight at the school, where teachers provide additional coaching in subjects like Mathematics, Science, Social Science, and English. Students struggling with Mathematics and Science are made to practice writing concepts repeatedly on boards to improve retention.

40 Mock Question Papers in Yadgir

Yadgir, a district marked as academically backward, is implementing various measures to improve results. Teams of three teachers visit each village to conduct awareness sessions titled ‘Pariksha Pratijne’ (Exam Pledge). Two-hour special night classes are conducted, and district education officers have been assigned responsibility for overseeing two schools each. The program also includes solving 40 sets of model question papers.

50-Point Strategy in Mysuru

With an ambition to break into the top five districts, Mysuru has adopted 232 government schools. A structured 50-point improvement program is in place, including unit tests, appointment of nodal officers for taluks, lectures by IAS and KAS officers, and subject-based weekly study plans. Over 100 officials, including DIET and B.Ed lecturers, have been assigned to oversee groups of two or three schools each.

Question Paper Bank in Karwar

Special morning and afternoon coaching sessions are being held for SSLC students in Karwar district. Each teacher is assigned 10 students to monitor their progress closely. Daily morning phone calls by teachers ensure that students stay motivated. A centralized question paper bank has been created, and the SSLC syllabus is expected to be completed by the end of December. The first round of preparatory exams has already been conducted at the school level.

Residential and Non-Residential Camps in Gadag

For the past two months, Gadag district has been running special training programs for SSLC students. Out of 15,000 students, 2,000 have been identified as academically weak. Residential and non-residential camps have been set up where expert teachers conduct intensive coaching sessions to ensure better results.

Result Improvement Action Plan in Kolar

Kolar education officials have analyzed last year’s SSLC and mid-term exam results to create a strategic improvement plan. This includes adopting students, organizing group study sessions under subject experts, and conducting Q&A-based interactive learning sessions. The goal is to help students pass the SSLC exam with a structured and focused approach.

‘Success Handbook’ in Ramanagara

To improve results, Ramanagara district has introduced a ‘Success Handbook’—a concise study guide covering the entire syllabus. This initiative is supported by the Social Responsibility Fund. Schools that recorded less than a 60% pass rate last year are given priority, and guest teachers have been hired to address faculty shortages. The district aims to secure a place in the top 10 rankings.

10-Point Strategy in Hassan

Hassan district has developed a 10-point plan to improve SSLC results. This includes tracking weak students, conducting home visits by teachers, personalized coaching, daily special classes at 9 AM, group study sessions in the evening, and assigning teachers to adopt students. The initiative focuses on ensuring that every student performs well in the exam.

Training Workshops in Raichur

Raichur has been distributing ‘Kalikasare’ books for the past two years to help students in classes 8, 9, and 10. Subject experts have designed customized study materials. Morning and afternoon special classes are conducted, and the Shivraj Patil Foundation is organizing additional training workshops for students.

‘Mission Vidyakashi’ in Dharwad

Dharwad has launched ‘Mission Vidyakashi’ under the guidance of the district commissioner. The project includes special mentoring, extra coaching classes in the morning and evening, and weekly tests for slow learners. A structured revision plan ensures that students practice throughout the week and take tests every Saturday. A total of 28,666 students are set to appear for the SSLC exams.

Rs 1 Lakh Prize in Chikkaballapur

In Chikkaballapur, local MLAs and education officials are taking various initiatives to boost results. MLA Pradeep Ishwar is organizing daily unit tests in government schools. Meanwhile, Bagepalli MLA Subtareddy has announced a Rs 1 lakh reward for schools that achieve 100% results. Teachers are conducting home visits and making morning phone calls to ensure students remain focused.

Teacher Adoption Program in Shivamogga

In rural areas like Guddakeri and Pillangere, Shivamogga district, teachers have adopted 10-12 students each, monitoring their progress closely. In Guddakeri, night classes begin 20 days before the exams, and students practice in two shifts. This initiative has helped the school maintain a 100% pass rate for the past five years.

With such intensive preparations, Karnataka is leaving no stone unturned to ensure improved SSLC results this year!
