In the areas of Delhi-NCR, a shock of a strong earthquake was felt at 5.36 am on Monday morning, causing a stir in the entire area. The earth started swinging and the buildings, due to which people came out of their homes. The intensity of the earthquake was measured by 4.0 Richter scale and its center was around Delhi. However, it is a matter of relief that there was no loss of life and property in this earthquake. But this incident raised an important question again, what should be done when the earthquake occurs while reciting Namaz?

Namaz issue during earthquake

It was a time of Fajan Ajan for Muslims at the time of earthquake on Monday morning in Delhi. If the earthquake had come after some time, the people of Muslim society would have been offering Namaz. In this situation, the question arises that if the earthquake comes during the Namaz, should the Namaz be left in the middle? This question was earlier in discussion after videos of people reciting Namaz during earthquakes in many Islamic countries. During the earthquake in countries like Indonesia, Türkiye and Syria, people were seen offering Namaz in mosques, which was quite shared on social media.

What does Islam say?

According to Mufti Osama Nadvi, it is clearly stated in the Islamic Sharia that if a person is offering Namaz and there is a danger of earthquake or any other natural disaster, then in that case the Namaz is allowed to be released in the middle. According to Sharia, if a person is in danger of life and if he can escape by leaving Namaz, it is necessary for him to protect his life by breaking the namaz.

Importance of life safety

The safety of life in Islam is considered paramount. It is believed in Islam that protecting your life is the biggest responsibility. In the event of earthquake, fire, flood or any other natural disaster, if someone is feeling a threat to his life, then he should stop the Namaz in between and pay attention to his safety. If a person leaves Namaz for the protection of his life, he will not be considered a crime.

If there is a danger of life, leave the namaz

Apart from this, it has also been said in Islam that if any other crisis comes while reading Namaz, as if a poisonous animal comes to the fore, then the Namaz should be abandoned. In such situations, protecting your life is given priority and the Namaz is allowed to stop in the middle.

Importance of Namaz and Assessment of Status

However, if there is no danger, Namaz should continue, as it is an important means of having a relationship with Allah. But when there is a danger, the person should give priority to the safety of his life. Reading Namaz is a duty on every Muslim, but in any situation it is not appropriate to risk his life.

Pray to Allah during earthquake

Muslims should pray to Allah during natural disasters like earthquake. During the earthquake or during other natural disasters, you should pray for forgiveness, Rahm and his help. As the Prophet Mohammed (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) also prayed during the earthquake.

It has also been said in Islam that if earthquakes or other natural phenomena continue for a long time, it is not valid to offer Namaz and it is not necessary to do it. At this time, it is more important to pray to Allah.

Balance between namaz and blessings

Overall, if the person is offering namaz during an earthquake -like crisis and he feels a danger of life, then it would be right to leave the Namaz in the middle and protect his life. Later, he can offer Namaz. In Islam, suicide or putting oneself in trouble is considered to be forbidden, so protecting your life is given top priority in any crisis.
