February 18, New Delhi [India]: To strengthen cooperation in important areas including agriculture, defense, space, infrastructure, and transportation, India and Italy met in the nation’s capital.
In order to discuss measures to increase bilateral commerce and fortify collaboration in these vital sectors, Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal met with Antonio Bartoli, the Italian Ambassador to India, and Maria Tripodi, Italy’s Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs and International collaboration.
Goyal said on social media Monday that the discussion was “productive” and emphasized both nations’ commitment to strengthening their economic relations.
“Had a fruitful discussion with Italian Ambassador to India H.E. Antonio Bartoli and Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, H.E. Maria Tripodi. spoke about expanding bilateral economic relations and bolstering cooperation in important fields including infrastructure, transportation, agriculture, defense, and space,” Goyal said.
Goyal spoke with the Italian delegation and also had a virtual conversation with the European Union’s Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security, Maros Sefcovic.
The two leaders spoke about fresh chances to strengthen the India-EU alliance and looked at measures to improve future interaction. During his next visit, the minister said he was excited to have Sefcovic visit India.
It is anticipated that the conversations between Goyal and Sefcovic would deepen the two areas’ strategic and economic collaboration.
Goyal also met with Deepak Tewari, Managing Director of MSC Agency India, and Soren Toft, CEO of Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), on Monday.
With a focus on investments in inland container ports, shipbuilding, maintenance, and container manufacture, the talks centered on the enormous development potential of India’s shipping and logistics industry.
Deep-sea vessel alliances and legislative changes intended to boost India’s marine competitiveness internationally were also discussed during the summit. Goyal underlined the government’s commitment to supporting the industry’s innovation, expansion, and independence.
One of the biggest shipping firms in the world, MSC, is essential to India’s trade logistics, and more investments from the business might greatly improve the nation’s marine infrastructure.
In line with the nation’s larger economic development plan, these discussions demonstrate India’s proactive efforts to fortify foreign trade alliances and draw investments to strategic industries.
