Actor Saqib Saleem of Bollywood, who is preparing for the premiere of his next streaming series “Crime Beat,” had feelings of nostalgia while filming the program in his hometown of the nation’s capital.
Saqib’s intimate knowledge of the city’s streets, flavors, and secret nooks may have even benefited the series, which has a theoretically realistic foundation. He infused his act with the lived-in energy of Delhi, which he understood intuitively since he had lived there his whole life.
“Delhi is in my blood,” the actor stated in reference to the same topic. There is a memory associated with each street and alley. It felt a homecoming while we were filming in several of these places. Every picture gave me a sense of the city’s vitality.
His contribution extended beyond his performance. To make the environment of “Crime Beat” seem as immersive as possible, he worked closely with filmmaker Sudhir Mishra. His intimate ties to the city permeated every aspect of the production, from recommending certain neighborhood restaurants for filming sites to modifying language delivery to fit a Delhiite’s natural cadence.
“There are some things about Delhi that only someone who has lived here would know,” he said. The street regulations, the way people interact, and the accent changes based on the area of the city. I wanted to include that subtlety in my work. Making him feel like a true Delhi journalist was the goal here.
“The show had a solid base already, but I wanted to emphasize that lived-in energy and rawness.” I was fortunate to present my interpretation of Delhi to the big screen, he said. Delhi is a character in and of itself.
