IPL 2015 Final: IPL Final action is all set to return to Eden Gardens for the 2025 edition, and fans in Kolkata will see an end to their 10-year wait for the mega event. The last time 'Mecca Of Indian Cricket' hosted an IPL Final was way back in 2015, contested between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings.
The fixture ended in a one-sided dominance for Rohit Sharma's men, who secured their 2nd IPL title, thereby, joining Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders as the only IPL franchises to win the tournament on multiple occasions.
The dominance did not stop there, as 'MI Paltan' ended up winning three more titles (2017, 2019, 2020) to become the first-ever franchise in the league's history to register 5 title triumphs.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the coin toss and decided to bowl first at Eden Gardens, a decision that later backfired, as Lendl Simmons and Rohit Sharma provided Mumbai Indians with a powerful start.
Despite of losing Parthiv Patel in the 1st over via runout, the duo did not put a step back, and accelerated at will, against the likes of Ashish Nehra, Mohit Sharma, and Ravichandran Ashwin.
The duo registered a mammoth 119-run stand within just 67 balls, as the 2nd-wicket partnership took the game away from the hands of CSK. Both, Rohit Sharma and Lendl Simmons, departed in consecutive balls, but Keiron Pollard and Ambati did not let the momentum derail, and propelled MI over 200 with their quickfire 30's.
In reply, CSK lost their star opener Michael Hussey inside the powerplay, but re-established stability via a 66-run partnership between Dwayne Smith and Suresh Raina.
The dismissal of the latter makred the downfall of the 2010 & 2011 champions, as their middle-order failed counter the likes of Lasith Malinga, Mitchell McClenaghen, and Harbhajan Singh, and hence, could manage 161 at the end of their innings, thereby, handing MI a 41-run win and their 2nd IPL title.
