A big-screen adaptation of Stephen King's short story The Monkey hits cinemas today (February 21), with Longlegs director Osgood Perkins putting his own unique spin on the 1980s tale. His new film has already received the blessing of King himself who described it as "b*****t insane."

The story follows two twin brothers who stumble across a cymbal-banging monkey toy which turns out to be cursed and very bloodthirsty. It brings chaos upon the pair's family, and resurfaces 25 years later, bringing more grisly deaths along with it.

The official synopsis reads: "When twin brothers find a mysterious wind-up monkey, a series of outrageous deaths tear their family apart. Twenty-five years later, the monkey begins a new killing spree forcing the estranged brothers to confront the cursed toy."

The glittering cast includes Tatiana Maslany from Netflix's hit series Orphan Black, as well as Elijah Wood (Lord of the Rings) in a small role. Christian Convery (Sweet Tooth) plays both twins Bill and Hal in childhood, while Theo James (The Gentleman) portrays the pair as adults.

Theo has had a hugely successful film and TV career, though he is perhaps best-known by younger audiences for his role in Guy Ritchie's Netflix series The Gentleman, as well as The Divergent film series. His other acting credits include The White Lotus, Castlevania and The Time Traveler's Wife TV show.

However, there is one role in the actor's portfolio that many have forgotten. Back in 2011, the star appeared in The Inbetweeners Movie. He portrayed the character of James, Carli's (played by Emily Head) unlikeable boyfriend.

In one memorable and pretty gross scene the character uses a 20 euro note to snort drugs, not realising the cash had previously been stowed away up Jay's (James Buckely) bottom. It results in James walking around with faeces on the tip of his nose.

While many have wiped - or at least attempted to - the scene from their minds, but for some it lives on rent free.

“I CANNOT unsee Theo James with poo stuck to the end of his nose from the Inbetweeners movie, I CAN’T UNSEE IT! Every time I look at him he has poo on the end of his nose," said one viewer. Another confessed: "I can’t look at Theo James the same again after The Inbetweeners Movie.”

Anyone hoping for Theo to remain untouched by bodily fluids in The Monkey will be very disappointed. In the trailer, Theo's character is seen covered in blood and coughing up a severed finger.
