A new update for Terry Gilliam’s next movie has emerged online.

Gilliam is currently working on a new movie that was formerly titled The Carnival at the End of Days but now appears to just be titled Carnival. Gilliam is known for co-directing 1975’s Monty Python and the Holy Grail alongside Terry Jones, while he also made films such as 1981’s Time Bandits, 1995’s 12 Monkeys, and more.

What is the update on Terry Gilliam’s Carnival movie?

Speaking with the Italian publication Box OfficeNotorious Pictures’ Guglielmo Marchetti confirmed that Carnival is in the works and will star Johnny Depp, Jeff Bridges, Jason Momoa, Adam Driver, Asa Butterfield, and Emma Laird.

“The next executive production that we will be working on at the beginning of 2025 is a real blockbuster that I am personally very proud of,” he said (translated from Italian). “After having handled the distribution of Doctor Parnassus in 2009, I am returning to work with one of the greatest directors in the world, the visionary Terry Gilliam who will direct a stellar cast: Johnny Depp, Jeff Bridges, Jason Momoa, Adam Driver, Asa Butterfield and Emma Laird. The work is titled Carnival and for the making of this film, a pool of Italian executive producers and several post-production companies will also be involved by the American producers. The Cinecittà sound stages will be used for the interiors and over 3,000 people will be employed in Italy in the making of the film.”

Gilliam previously said of the movie, via Variety“God wipes out humanity and the only character who wants to save them is Satan, and Johnny Depp plays Satan. This is a simple tale of God wiping out humanity for f—ing up his beautiful garden Earth … There’s only one character who’s trying to save humanity and that’s Satan, because without humanity he’s lost his job and he’s an eternal character and so to live without a job is terrible. So he finds some young people and he tries to convince God that these young people are the new Adam and Eve. God still gets to wipe out humanity. It’s a comedy.”

A release date for Carnival has not yet been announced.
