A turbulent weather front will begin moving across the UK in a matter of hours with the possibility of , the latest suggest.

Recent maps showed a as a 446-mile band of wintry conditions covers areas in northern England and Scotland.

But the latest maps generated by WXCharts show a band of hitting northern regions at around 9am tomorrow (February 26), while heavy rain is expected to pummel southeastern areas at the same time.

Forecasts suggest that parts of Scotland and areas on the Scottish border in Northumberland will bear the brunt of the cold weather, with up to 0.8cm of snow expected to fall on Wednesday morning.

The icy conditions could spread to Cumbria as well as painting western regions in including Argyllshire white.

Intense rain showers are also expected along the southwestern Scottish coast at around 9am, with rainfall of up to 2cm per hour. Heavier spells of around 6cm could hit parts of Devon and stretch over Southampton, London and Birmingham throughout the day.

The snow flurries could move down the country towards Manchester on Wednesday morning, with intermittent flurries possible in pockets of the northeast.

Northern Wales could also come in for a brief battering, with snowfall of around 1cm per hour expected to fall in regions around Conwy at around 9pm on Wednesday.

The potentially disruptive conditions are forecast to continue into Thursday, with snow moving away from Scotland and appearing in patches across England, WXCharts suggests.

Flurries could appear near London, in eastern England around the Herford area, with lighter snowfall also forecast for a stretch of Cumbria, possibly extending down into Yorkshire at aroudn 3am on Thursday.

The has forecast "outbreaks of heavy rain" on Wednesday that will sweep eastwards through the day, followed by some sunny spells and frequent showers.

The national forecaster added: "Rather breezy across the country and feeling cool."
