Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Union minister for housing Manohar Lal Khattar said urban population was increasing rapidly across the world. In India, urban population is 32% and in coming time, it will be 50 %. In Madhya Pradesh also, urban population is increasing. “Hence, it is necessary to think how to provide facilities to urban population in future,” he said while addressing the Global Investor Summit session on Unlocking the Land Value in Cities on Tuesday. 

Describing the state’s recently launched Integrated township policy as investor-friendly, he said policy would provide FAR on green cover concept. Speaking about urban mobility, he said if more demand came for Bhopal Metro, then it would be fulfilled. Shedding light on slum problem and need for affordable houses, he said PM took the initiative and laid stress on cleanliness. He praised the cleanliness arrangements made at Prayagrakj Mahakumbh where record 60 crore people have taken the holy dip. He added that on the first day of GIS, MoUs worth Rs 22.50 lakh crore were signed. “It is a remarkable achievement,” he said.

Delhi slums

Khattar also spoke on slum problem of Delhi where he said unauthorised construction was rampant. In next two years, necessary changes will be made in policy to develop Delhi though the land is limited in Delhi.

CM on metropolitan city

Speaking on having a metropolitan city, chief minister Mohan Yadav said areas of Bhopal, Sehore and some parts of Narmadapuram would be joined to create a metropolitan city. Another similar move will be made in Malwa belt, he added.

Changes in offing

State urban administration and development minister Kailash Vijayvargiya said changes would be made if needed in the policy to make state number one in urbanisation. Principal secretary, urban administration and development, Sanjay Shukla shed light on key provisions of Integrated Township Policy.
