Navi Mumbai: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport (NMMT) has presented its budget estimates for 2025-26, outlining the revenue expectations, planned initiatives, and financial support from various sources.

The total revenue and capital income, including the opening balance, is proposed to be Rs 534 crore. After deducting the total revenue and capital expenditure of Rs 533.90 crore, a closing balance of Rs 9.40 lakh is estimated in the budget. The revenue expenditure as per the budget includes salaries and wages as per the 7th Pay Commission, maintenance of bus terminals, administrative buildings, and expenses for electric buses along with fuel, auto-electrical materials, and vehicle insurance.

The capital expenditure includes purchase of new buses, land acquisition for bus depots and terminals, construction and development of bus terminals, consultancy fees for development projects, machinery, mechanical and general tools, furniture, computers, and investments. A total of Rs 91.40 crore has been allocated for it.

NMMT plans to implement several key initiatives. The Intelligent Transport Management System (ITMS) project is set to be completed. Efforts are being made to enhance eco-friendly public transport services by increasing the use of sustainable fuel sources. Bus services in high-revenue routes across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) will be expanded to generate more income.

About The 'Increase Passengers, Increase Revenue' Campaign

The ‘Increase Passengers, Increase Revenue’ campaign will focus on boosting ridership and fuel efficiency to maximize earnings. In 2024-25, NMMT introduced 72 electric (AC) buses, and 28 more will be added to the fleet soon. This move is expected to reduce fuel costs, increase revenue, and contribute to pollution control.

The commercial complex at Vashi Sector-9 bus terminal has been completed and is anticipated to generate additional non-fare revenue. Between April 2025 and March 2026, considering the operation of 92 existing buses and 50 new CNG buses, the expected revenue is estimated at Rs 25.66 crore. Additional revenue is expected from the passenger and student pass scheme, occasional contracts, ticketless travel penalties, and advertisements on buses and bus stops, contributing Rs 20.95 crore. The Vashi Terminus Development Project is projected to generate Rs 32 crore.
