CBSE Board Exam: As part of a major change in the education system, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has decided to conduct board examinations twice a year. This change has been made under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which aims to give more opportunities to students and reduce exam stress.

Till now, students used to depend on their performance in a single board exam, but after the implementation of the two-exam formula, they will be able to take the exam twice a year, allowing them to improve their preparation and score better.

What changes will this change bring in the syllabus, marking pattern, examination system, and strategy of the students? How will this new system work? And how beneficial will it be for the students? Let us know the answers to all these questions in detail.

Question- When will the system of two exams be implemented?

Answer- This new system will be implemented from the academic session 2025-26 i.e. from the year 2026, board examinations will be conducted twice a year. According to the draft norms, the first phase of the exam will be held from February 17 to March 6, while the second phase will be held from May 5 to 20.

Q- Will it be mandatory for students to take both the exams?

Answer- No. Students will have three options:

They can take the exam only once a year.

They can appear for both exams if they wish.

If they score less in any subject, they can re-appear for that subject only.

Q- Will there be separate registration and fees for both the exams?

Answer- No. Registration for both exams will be done once, but the exam fee will have to be paid twice, which will be deposited together. Apart from this, both the exams will be conducted at the same exam center.

Q- Will the practical exam for the second exam also be held twice?
Answer- No. Practical exams and internal exams will be held once only, which will be conducted in December-January as before. Apart from this, the syllabus of both the exams will not be different. Both exams will cover the entire syllabus. The exam pattern and the format of the question paper will remain the same both times.

Question- How will the result be decided after taking both the exams?

Answer- If the students take both exams, then the exam in which the highest marks are obtained will be counted in the final marks. If the marks are less in the second exam, then only the marks of the first exam will be valid. Merit certificates will be issued to all the students after the second exam.

Question- Will the option of a supplementary exam be available?

Answer- No. Now the supplementary exam of class 10 will be abolished. Students will get a chance to take the exam twice to improve their marks. If the student fails in any of the first five main subjects like Hindi, Maths, Social Science, Science, and English, then he will have to take the exam of all the subjects in the second exam.
