Rahul Lavari, a third-year student at IIT Patna, is accused of killing himself on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, by leaping from the seventh storey of a campus building. Lavari, a native of Hyderabad, Telangana, was working for a B.Tech in computer science and mathematics.

Lavari’s classmates and other students sent him to Netaji Subhash Medical College and Hospital after he was discovered seriously hurt after the incident, according to police records. He passed away from his wounds while receiving treatment, despite attempts to rescue him. The cause of his death is still unclear, and authorities have not yet discovered a suicide note.

Students have gathered to demand a thorough inquiry after the event sent shockwaves across the campus. Another student from the same branch, Rituparna, said she couldn’t believe it. Rahul was a very intelligent student. He never appeared to mind when we studied together. It’s difficult to accept that he did that. She suggested that the recent modifications to the semester structure and curriculum may have increased academic pressure.

In the meanwhile, there have been complaints regarding the campus’s poor medical facilities. Lavari had to be sent to a private institution after a number of students claimed that the campus hospital did not provide enough emergency treatment. They think that if there had been better on-site medical assistance, his life would have been spared.

Lavari’s hostel room has been sealed by the police, who have filed a case of unnatural death. According to Pankaj Mishra, the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of Danapur, the student’s corpse has been submitted for a post-mortem. In order to determine the circumstances behind Lavari’s death, authorities are also planning to record testimony from the dormitory warden and his classmates.

After being notified, his parents are scheduled to go to Patna on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, to pick up his remains.
