George Clarke stunned this week's contestants on s George Clarke's Building Home episode by telling them to "shut up" after they began discussing their budget.

The final episode of series one, which aired on Wednesday, February 26, saw Laura and Daniel attempt to build their dream home on Mersea Island in Essex, having purchased an old beach house in major disrepair.

As the trio discussed the ambitious rebuild inside the dilapidated house, which included ripping the roof off and installing a second floor, they admitted that their budget was a humble £50k.

Clarke was stunned at the budget, telling them "shut up" and proclaiming they will have to "nick stuff" to afford the materials.

The couple insisted they could stick to their goal with the help of family and friends, but Clarke was sceptical, admitting that while he's often optimistic, he was struggling.

While George appreciated the couple's enthusiasm and the support from their family and friends, his concerns about the budget proved to be valid.

Just halfway through the episode, Laura and Daniel predicted they would have to exceed their budget by £13,000, which would still only cover the essentials needed to make the house liveable, but not fully complete.

George then asked them: "Have you done a budget of how much money you need to finish the job? I think it's worth doing some reality numbers."

After admitting they had not been number crunching, George added: "It's essential that he tailors his budget to suit or he'll never move in. Conversations about budget are never pleasant but they are vital to make the right decision."

The ocuple ende dup spending £98k on the rebuild, which was still unfinished. But George was still impressed, gushing: "Lowest budget I could ever possibly imagine."

A recent episode took an awkward turn after a couple renovating their dream home in a prime Solihull location realised they'd made an enormous £10,000 mistake.

Kazal Ahmed and his wife Eleena featured on a recent episode showcasing their journey to renovate a £850,000 property in Solihull, near Birmingham.

Kazal and Eleena hoped to double their current floor space - much of which would be taken up by an enormous 9 x 7-metre kitchen extension.

But two months into the building process, they faced a huge setback as they realised the huge room was actually set to encroach on their neighbour's land in a very costly mistake.

The couple had already ordered the steel frames needed for the build when builders told them that the foundational slabs for the extension would not fit within their own boundaries.

With the plans needing to be redrawn and the kitchen reconfigured, it made for £10,000 in additional building costs.

Speaking to George at the end of the show, they revealed they'd spent £400,000 on their renovations after hoping to only splash £200,000 - and, at most, £260,000.
