You all must have heard the names of IIT and IIIT, but you probably do not know that there is a lot of difference between the two institutes. Today we will tell you how admission is done in IIT and IIIT. There is also a difference in the fees and courses of both.

In the field of higher technical education in India, students and parents often get confused between IIT and IIIT. Many people consider these two institutes to be the same, but in reality both of them are different in many ways.

There are 23 IITs in the country

IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) was established in 1950 with the first institute in Kharagpur. Currently there are a total of 23 IITs across the country, which provide education in diverse fields of engineering, science and humanities. The brand value of IIT is very high and they are very popular among the students. Their average annual fee is around Rs 1.5 lakh, which is considered reasonable for high quality education.

There are 25 IIITs in the country

IIITs (Indian Institutes of Information Technology) started in 1997, when the first IIIT, ABV IIIT Gwalior, was established. Currently, there are a total of 25 IIITs in the country, out of which 5 are financially aided and governed by the Ministry of Education, while the remaining 20 have public-private partnership. The brand value of IIITs is less than that of IITs and the ranking is also slightly behind. They are mainly focused on IT and computer science courses. Their average fees are around Rs 80 thousand per annum, which is much less than IITs.

This is how you get admission in these courses in IIT

IIIT courses include B.Tech (in Computer Science, Information Technology and Electronics), M.Sc, M.E./M.Tech, MBA/PGDM, PG Diploma, PhD, Integrated B.Tech and MBA Dual Degree, and B.Tech/M.Tech and Dual Degree Programs in Mechanical Engineering.
