Alan Thomas, CEO of Ripe at Ripe Motorhome Insurance, has issued a stark warning about the consequences. Mr Thomas has shared some crucial dos and don'ts regarding driving licences.

He strongly advises to always carry their ID while on the road. If pulled over by the police and found without a licence, drivers have a seven-day grace period to present it at a police station.

Failure to do so is a legal offence, potentially resulting in a Fixed Penalty Notice (FPN) and possible court action if the fine goes unpaid. Additionally, Mr Thomas encourages motorists to keep a record of their insurance details handy, reports .

Police officers are within their rights to request proof of insurance during a stop, so having these documents readily available is advisable. If unable to produce these documents immediately, the police may be able to verify insurance coverage through their system, or drivers have a week to submit them at a police station.

A report attributes the escalating cost of UK car insurance to increasing replacement and repair costs, as well as rising energy prices and inflation.

To cope with these escalating costs, insurance companies are increasing their premiums, resulting in customers having to pay more. Drivers are also being reminded to ensure they can provide proof of their car's MOT.

Similar to insurance proof, a valid MOT certificate should be carried if your car requires one. A car's first MOT is due on the third anniversary of its registration, so unless your car is less than three years old, make sure you can provide evidence of a valid MOT.
