Traveling between Mumbai and Goa may soon become more convenient and exciting, as M2M Ferries is working on launching a RoPAX ferry service that will allow passengers to take their vehicles along. The company, known for its roll-on, roll-off (Ro-Ro) services between Mumbai and Mandwa in Raigad district, has acquired a 15-year-old RoPAX vessel from Italy and is in the process of securing necessary approvals to operate it on the popular Mumbai-Goa route.
If reports are to go by, the vessel is currently undergoing maintenance in Mumbai’s dry dock, and is expected to be operational soon. It is also reported that if all goes as planned, the ferry service will significantly cut travel time, with a Mumbai-Goa journey taking just six and a half hours.
As per reports, the proposed service will operate from Ferry Wharf in Mazgaon, Mumbai, to the Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) in Goa. However, M2M Ferries is also in discussions with the Goa government to allow docking at a jetty in Panaji.
The RoPAX vessel has a capacity of 620 passengers and can carry 60 cars, making it an attractive alternative to road and rail travel, especially for those wanting to explore Goa in their own vehicles. The fare structure is yet to be decided.

The Mumbai-Goa travel sector is already competitive, with existing options like Cordelia Cruises, which operates a luxury cruise liner on the same route.

Meanwhile, the Maharashtra Maritime Board (MMB) is also actively expanding the Ro-Ro network along the Konkan coast. Jetties for Ro-Ro services are under construction at Kashid, Revdanda, and Dighi in Raigad district, south of Mumbai. These jetties are expected to be completed within 18 months, providing new connectivity options for travelers and businesses.
Additionally, the state government is developing an industrial town in Dighi and aims to connect it via a Ro-Ro service.

If approved, the Mumbai-Goa RoPAX service could revolutionize travel between the two destinations, offering a faster, more comfortable, and scenic alternative to road and rail journeys. It would be particularly beneficial for tourists, business travelers, and locals who frequently commute between Mumbai and Goa. Ferry services like these could become a game-changer in domestic travel, reducing road congestion, offering eco-friendly alternatives, and providing a memorable travel experience along India’s stunning western coastline.
