The equity markets are currently in the middle of an absolute meltdown, as the marquee indices, Sensex and Nifty, have witnessed an exodus of resources from Dalal Street.

As we enter the last month of this crucial fiscal year, we take a look at the operational days and therefore the market holidays in this upcoming month of March.

12 Days Of March

While traders and investors can buy and sell shares on equity markets even on days when the Indian indices are not working, these transactions are not reflected in Demat accounts, until the equity markets resume trading session.

National Stock Exchange (NSE)

One trading session, or day, lasts six hours and fifteen minutes in the equities markets. And a trading week usually has 5 trading days or 5 trading sessions.

The equity markets will not be officially functional on these days in March 2025. The markets will not be operational on a total of 12 days in March.


Market Holidays In March

After Union Budget in February, and the RBI MPC later on, the markets look forward to the last month of FY25. The markets will start the month with a holiday on March 1, Saturday.

This is followed by March 2, which is a Sunday. The first day of trade in March will start on Monday, March 3.

After a full-fedged week, the markets will close for the weekend on Saturday, March 8, followed by Sunday, March 9.

The new week will start on Monday, March 10. However, this will not be a week with 5 full trading sessions.

The markets will remain shut on Friday, March 14, on account of the Hindu festival of Holi.

The markets will remain shut on Friday, March 14, on account of the Hindu festival of Holi. This will make way for an extended weekend, on Saturday, March 15, followed by Sunday, March 16.

The new trading week will start on Monday, March 17. After a week without any disruptions, the trading week will come to a close on Saturday, March 22, followed by Sunday, March 23.

The new week will start on Monday, March 24. The week will once again have 5 trading sessions, before closing on March 29, Saturday, and then on March 30, Sunday. However, this market hiatus will be further extended on March 31, Monday, as the markets will be closed on the last day of March on account of Id-Ul-Fitr (Ramzan Id).
