Survival Rate In Cancer: Cancer is definitely a fatal disease, but if it is identified in the early stages and its treatment is started, then the chances of the patient's survival are very high.

Cancer is a life-threatening disease that slowly spreads in the body. In such a situation, it can be removed from the body by treating it. But it is more beneficial to start treatment as soon as cancer begins. If cancer is detected in the first stage, then in this situation, treatment is quite easy and the patient's chances of survival are very high.

Dr. Sajjan Rajpurohit, Senior Director of Medical Oncology, BLK-Max Super Specialty Hospital, Delhi, explains that early detection of cancer improves treatment options and the patient needs less aggressive treatment. This reduces the side effects after treatment and also improves the quality of life.

The advantage of diagnosing cancer in the first stage

Experts say that according to statistics, detection of cancer in the first stage increases the survival rate. In many types of cancer, if it is detected in the first stage, the five-year survival rate is more than 90%.

90% survival rate in the first stage

Breast cancer- If diagnosed at this stage, the 5-year survival rate is around 99%.

Prostate cancer- If it is in the early stage, there is almost 100% chance of survival.

Lung cancer- Non-small cell lung cancer has a survival rate of around 60% in the first stage.

Colorectal cancer- If diagnosed at the first stage, the patient's five-year survival rate is above 90%.

Treatment of cancer at first stage

Detecting cancer at stage 1 provides more effective treatment options. At this stage, cancer can be treated wherever it is, with surgery, targeted therapy, or radiation, none of which are invasive. These treatments put less stress on the patient's body and have fewer side effects after treatment, making recovery easier.

Due to these reasons, it may be difficult to survive

According to experts, although the survival rate is high if cancer is treated in the first stage, some factors affect this rate. Such as:

Type of cancer - Some cancers may be in the first stage but can be very aggressive.

Health condition - The patient's health also affects the results of treatment.

Treatment - The effect of treatment on the body also affects the survival rate.

Regular screening is necessary

Many cancers do not show any symptoms in the early stages. In such a situation, regular screening is necessary to identify cancer as soon as it starts. Especially people who have a family history of cancer should get tests like mammogram, pap smear, colonoscopy and low-dose CT scan done from time to time.
