In a historic development, for the first time ever, India and Bhutan, the two neighbouring nations, are all set to create first-ever railway connection with the help of Indian Railways . Yes, you read that right! India and Bhutan will soon be connected via train and the new rail link will connect Kokrajhar in Assam, India, to Gelephu in Bhutan.
The train will cover a distance of 69.04 km and the completion of the Detailed Project Report (DPR) marks a cruci.al step in strengthening the diplomatic and economic ties between the two countries.
A spokesperson from the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) spoke about the significance of this railway line, stating that it would enhance India-Bhutan relations by facilitating better trade and tourism flows. He said, “The proposed railway line will significantly strengthen India-Bhutan relations by improving connectivity, offering Bhutan its first railway link, and enabling easier transportation,” the spokesperson said.
