The splitting of Andhra Pradesh has a significant effect on the students from the remnant state who are enrolled at Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Open University in Hyderabad. After ten years following the state’s partition, the Hyderabad-based university ceased admitting AP students for the 2024–2025 academic year.

Students are not admitted to Dr. B. R. Ambedkar University who want to pursue a degree or postgraduate studies. However, the quality of Andhra Pradesh’s open universities is not comparable to that of Hyderabad’s BRAOU.

One of the largest open universities in the former Andhra Pradesh, the BRAOU formerly enrolled over 30,000 students from the Andhra and Rayalaseema areas. The AP students are now in a difficult position since there are no other universities to choose from. Older students who were admitted before 2024–2025 may still pursue their education.

Clerical staff at BRAOU centers in Andhra Pradesh are paid only after being approved by the Hyderabad-based head office. The certification has been postponed since January.

Even after ten years after the state’s division, the Andhra Pradesh administration has not taken any action to establish a large, public university in the state. In order for Dr. B. R. Ambedkar University’s operations in Andhra Pradesh to continue, the teachers and staff of the university are requesting that the AP government provide campus space and funding to Acharya Nagarjuna University.

Due to financial limitations or other factors, many students from middle-class and lower-middle-class households are unable to attend regular courses at colleges and universities. These students may get degrees or postgraduate certifications by continuing their study at open institutions.

Parents and students are now requesting that the government establish a large open university in Andhra Pradesh as well, under the name Dr.

Any leader, such as B. R. Ambedkar. However, nothing has changed in the last ten years.

Dr. B R Ambedkar Open University Andhra Pradesh OSD Velaga Joshi issued a letter to V Balakista Reddy, the chairman of the Telangana State Council of Higher Education, asking him to solve the issues that the students and employees of BRAOU in Andhra Pradesh are facing. Joshi asked Balakista Reddy to take action to discharge the staff’s unpaid pay, stating that they are still outstanding.

Balakista Reddy pledged to pay the salary and to communicate with his counterpart, the chairman of the AP State Council of Higher Education, to address the outstanding concerns at Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Open University, according to a news statement issued by Joshi on Sunday.

According to Joshi, an open university may be established in Andhra Pradesh as well to serve the requirements of AP students if a campus was assigned to Acharya Nagarjuna University. He said that with the money that students enrolled in open universities pay, the campus may be expanded gradually.

He said that after presenting his arguments to higher-ranking education department officials, they agreed to create an open university to benefit the state’s students.
