Avocados are a popular many households love adding to a slice of toast or using to make guacamole. But for avocados to truly shine, they need to be correctly and ripened to perfection. The problem is that they're often as hard as a rock when you buy them from the supermarket, even if they're labelled as ripe and ready.

Of course, you can let an avocado ripen naturally, but this could take several days or even up to a week. To speed things up, Kirk Muenzenberger shared his avocado ripening hack on his page , which he says also makes the fruit "taste amazing".

He captioned : "This tip is an absolute game changer. How to ripen Avocados (naturally) in one day!

"You ever go to the store in search of ripe avocados only to find them hard as a rock? With this tip you won't need to wait five days for them to ripen on your kitchen counter, you'll be back to fresh guac or homemade avocado toast in no time!"

The trick involves popping your underripe avocado in a brown paper bag along with fruits that are "high in producing ethylene gas".

These include fruits like apples, bananas or kiwis. Kirk opted for two apples and a bunch of bananas.

Next, roll up the paper bag tightly and "leave it to sit overnight". Come morning, the avocados "will be ripe".

Kirk showed viewers how hard the avocados were before using this hack and how much softer they had become by the next day by squeezing them.

If you have a perfectly ripe avocado but you're not prepared to use it yet, place it in the fridge. The chill of the fridge will aid in preserving the freshness of the avocados for a few more days.

If you've already cut into the avocado, prevent it from turning brown by leaving the pit in, adding a squeeze of lemon juice, and wrapping it securely in cling film. You can also freeze avocado either in slices or as a puree.

While they won't defrost to their full, creamy splendour, they'll still be excellent for smoothies, salad dressings, and dips.
