The in the UK has been named and it's one many Brits enjoy shopping at. Aldi has taken top spot for the cheapest supermarket in the UK according to Which? Magazine.

The was the UK's cheapest supermarket in February - beating rival Lidl's loyalty prices by £1.87. Which compared the prices of 100 popular grocery items and found that both Aldi and Lidl (with and without loyalty prices) were cheaper than shopping at Asda, Tesco with a Clubcard or Sainsbury's with a Nectar card. Ensuring your weekly food shop is affordable is an important factor in choosing a supermarket for many Brits.

The next was Asda, which doesn't offer loyalty prices in the same way as the others. It was 11% more than Aldi for our shopping list.

In contrast, the most expensive supermarket was Waitrose.

Waitrose offers some loyalty prices to members, but there were not any for the items compared by Which. Its prices averaged £245.79 which is £63.15 (or 35%) more than Aldi.

As for Tesco, it was still cheaper to shop at this store without a loyalty card than at Morrisons or Sainsbury's with one.

Sainsbury's has Nectar price promotions on 27 items compared, while Tesco had Clubcard prices on 23.

Which? explains how it analyses prices, it says: "We check the prices of hundreds of grocery items at eight major supermarkets, using an independent price comparison website.

"For each supermarket, we work out the of each item across the month, then add those up to get each store's average price.

"Our shopping list comprises the country's most popular and widely available groceries, based on extensive market analysis."

It includes items such as Cathedral City cheese and Hellmann's mayonnaise as well as own-branded products.

The analysis aims to make own-branded item comparisons identical across supermarkets and also looks at special offers.
