The Israel Airports Authority said Wednesday that Terminal One at Ben Gurion Airport would reopen in the last week of March, anticipating a post-war spike in visitation.

Following the October 7 assaults, foreign airlines halted flights to Tel Aviv, resulting in the closure of the terminal. The Airports Authority shuttered the terminal in November to undergo upgrades after it first reopened in June 2024.

For the first time since the October 7 conflict, multinational airlines are gradually resuming flights to Israel, and passenger volume is anticipated to soar ahead of the hectic Christmas season. International operations will resume at the end of March, while domestic flights will return to the terminal during the last week of March.

IAA statistics indicates that around 1,377 flights—roughly a quarter of all outgoing passengers at Ben Gurion—are anticipated to take off from Terminal 1 in April.

El Al, Arkia, Israir, Wizz Air, Ryanair, and EasyJet are among the airlines that will operate out of the facility. Ryanair will provide 86 weekly flights to 22 destinations, while Wizz Air is expected to run around 110 weekly flights to 19 destinations. In June, EasyJet is anticipated to start operating flights to Israel again.

Sofia, Budapest, Berlin, Rome, Athens, and Vienna are just a few of the well-known locations that passengers traveling from Terminal 1 will have direct access to.

The IAA has added hundreds of security and operational staff in anticipation of the terminal’s reopening and the anticipated spike in passenger volume before Passover.

After a break, a number of major airlines are starting to fly to Israel again. British Airways will begin operations on April 5 with a single daily trip, expanding to two on April 20. United Airlines and Delta will resume operations in March and April, respectively. Air India, Air Baltic, Iberia Express, and Hainan carriers are among the other carriers making a comeback.

Additionally, the Lufthansa Group announced increasing the number of weekly flights to Israel from 35 to 60, along with the addition of overnight routes that would link Israeli travelers to North America via Europe.
