UK show stretching hundreds of miles across a huge swathe of the country, all the way from to southern . Snow maps show a dusting from Galashiels in the Scottish Borders to around Oxford, a distance of just over 300 miles.

One map generated by WXCharts shows snow in the Pennines, Midlands, along the Welsh-English border and around Greater London at around midday on March 12. The same map shows the snow will be fairly light, with less than half a centimetre falling per hour for most. It doesn't look likely that it will last either, with the whole country free of snow by 6pm on the same day, according to a second map generated earlier today by WXCharts. But a third map shows bitterly could hit, with minimum temperatures struggling to get above freezing across the country.

Scotland could see the mercury plunge to as low as -3C while most of the UK may see 0C at midday on March 12, WXCharts shows.

The Met Office's latest long range weather forecast, covering March 10-19, doesn't forecast snow, but does suggest temperatures will "likely be below normal".

This period starts with cloud and outbreaks of rain, with sunny spells and a few coastal showers following from the north.

High pressure building from the northwest will bring clearer conditions to the whole of the country, leading to fine and dry conditions for many.

It may become milder and more changeable towards the end of the long range forecast period, according to the Met Office.

Unlike the Met Office, Netweather does suggest snow could fall, albeit on higher ground, with a change in the weather expected in the second week of March.

This forecaster says: "There is likely to be a chilly east to north-easterly at the start of the week (March 10-16), probably bringing cloudy weather to the south and brighter showery weather further north with the majority of the showers in the east.

"It will probably not be unusually cold for the time of year, with sleet and snow probably restricted mainly to high ground."

Netweather adds that high pressure will then be centred over or just to the north of the UK around the middle of that week.

This will "probably" result in dry, sunny weather, near-average temperatures by day and frosts by night for most of the country.
