The progress of the Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada Metro Rail projects was discussed at a meeting between Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Union Minister for Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar. In Andhra Pradesh, these initiatives are essential for lowering traffic jams, promoting economic expansion, and enhancing urban mobility.
The Chief Minister emphasized at the meeting how vital it is to get central backing and expedite clearances. He sent in a thorough message explaining the importance of these initiatives in improving infrastructure and tackling the problems associated with urbanization. He further emphasized the discrepancy, pointing out that although the projects in Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada are still waiting, Hyderabad’s Metro Rail was sanctioned prior to bifurcation.
One important industrial center, Visakhapatnam, is experiencing growing traffic congestion. Connecting the Metro line with national roads is essential since the new Bhogapuram International Airport is expected to open by June 2026. Major metropolitan areas will be connected in the first phase, with an extension to the airport anticipated.
Vijayawada’s Metro system, which serves as the entry point to Amaravati, is crucial for enhancing regional connectivity and fostering economic development. In order to address the city’s expanding transportation demands, the Chief Minister asked that the project be given priority.
Naidu asked for 100% federal help for these metro rail projects, citing post-bifurcation budgetary difficulties. To guarantee timely execution, he requested assistance in obtaining licenses and acquiring land for Phase 1.
Long-term advantages of these initiatives include better air quality, less traffic, and more economic prospects for Andhra Pradesh residents.
