Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Taking a leaf out of Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission (MPPSC)’s book, the Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV) is set to introduce retired officers as observers in its law exams starting from March 17.

The observers will be responsible for monitoring sensitive exam centres to ensure a fair and smooth process. A training session for observers was conducted at the university on Thursday, in which they were briefed on exam protocols.

The university officials confirmed that 25 retired officers from various departments—including SBI, BSNL, police, district administration, finance, women and child development and treasury had been appointed as observers.

Key responsibilities of observers

A meeting was held at 2 pm on the UTD campus, in which vice chancellor Dr Rakesh Singhai, exam controller Dr Ashesh Tiwari, deputy registrar (exam) Prajwal Khare and assistant deputy registrar Pratibha Baghel explained the examination process.

The observers were instructed to open the question paper bundles in front of CCTV cameras at the exam centres, inspect examination halls, ensure proper attendance records, maintain records of question papers and answer sheets and strictly enforce anti-cheating measures at sensitive centres.

The observers underwent two hours of training to prepare for their roles. Tiwari said that this system was being introduced for the first time in law course exams and would soon be expanded to undergraduate and postgraduate exams, though observers would be placed only at sensitive centres.

Law exams schedule and centres

The university has scheduled semester exams for BA LLB, BCom LLB, BBA LLB and LLB (5th, 7th, and 9th semesters) from March 17 to April 4. The exams will be held in two shifts: 10 AM to 1 PM and 2 PM to 5 PM. About 14,000 students will appear for the exams at 25 centres, with one observer assigned to each centre.
