Conductor Capital, a UK-based energy-focused commodities and environmental goods investment firm, has awarded a millions US dollar project investment to Varaha, an Indian business creating carbon removal projects in Asia.
With the financing, Varaha will be able to contact more farmers, extend its carbon initiatives over more regions, and provide more advantages in a wider range of geographical areas, mainly in India and Nepal.
14 technology-driven carbon initiatives have been carried out by Varaha in Bangladesh, Kenya, Nepal, and India. These include increased rock weathering, biochar, afforestation, and regenerative agriculture. To far, Varaha has removed over two million tons of greenhouse gas emissions (CO2e) from the environment by converting over 100,000 smallholder farmers to sustainable methods. Under the Puro.Earth register, Varaha was the first project developer in India to provide carbon reduction credits for biochar. Google made its first significant purchase of carbon removal credits in India when Varaha sold 100,000 carbon dioxide removal (CDR) credits to the company in January 2025.
“This investment from Conductor Capital is transformative for Varaha,” said Madhur Jain, one of the co-founders of Varaha. It is a strong endorsement of both our strategy and the pressing need for environmentally sound solutions. By offering a clear route for expanding operations and integrating into India’s larger carbon reduction efforts, it increases the potential effect of Conductor Capital’s project investment. We are thrilled to take the lead in developing sustainable, scalable solutions that tackle climate change head-on and guarantee a better world for coming generations.
Conductor Capital Chief Investment Officer Marcello Romano stated: “We are thrilled to support Varaha’s creative approach to the development of carbon projects. Varaha’s tech-driven platform and its meticulous implementation skills stand out in this respect, and our investment underlines our commitment to supporting solutions that deliver significant environmental and social advantages.”
In 2022, the nature-based carbon removal firm Varaha was established. Varaha’s goal is to permanently remove carbon from the environment in order to reduce the quarter of greenhouse gas emissions that come from food and agricultural systems worldwide. Varaha has created initiatives in four nations that include increased rock weathering, biochar, agroforestry, and regenerative agriculture. These initiatives support biodiversity, boost climate resilience, and enhance farmer livelihoods all at once. RTP Global, Omnivore, AgFunder, Artemeter by DRW, Norinchukin Bank, IMC Ventures, Orios, Theia Ventures, and Better Capital are among the investors supporting Varaha.
