Today John Abraham is a well known name in Bollywood. In a career spanning over two decades, he has given several hits and also has experimented with his roles. Constantly looking to reinvent himself, John is one of those few actors who takes risks outside his comfort zone. It puts him in a class by himself.

Of course, it was not always easy for the model-turned actor. He had to struggle in his initial days. But he also knew what roles to pick and choose. His debut came with Jism in 2003, but it actually could have happened a couple of years earlier. That too in a Shah Rukh Khan film. Yes, the movie we are speaking of is none other than the 2001 release Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham.

He was approached by Karan Johar for the role of the guy who had a crush on Kareena Kapoor in the movie. But it was for just one scene and John did not want to do such a small role. So he said no. The film went on to be a big hit. Other than SRK and Kareena, it starred Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan and Kajol. It is now a cult film.

John missed out on acting in a SRK film back in 2001. But in 2023, that finally did happen when he played the antagonist while SRK played the protagonist in the blockbuster film Pathaan that also starred Deepika Padukone. Of course, John’s big break came also as a villain when he portrayed a negative character in the 2004 hit Dhoom. That put him on the map. Films such as Garam Masala, Madras Cafe, Dostana and Batla House showcased his versatility as an actor.

He was last seen in the 2024 film Vedaa. John’s next appearance is in The Diplomat that releases on March 14. It will be interesting to see how he performs in a type of role which is relatively new to him.

From a footballer to becoming a model and finally transitioning into an actor and producer, John’s journey has seen its ups and downs. But he has built the fame on which he now stands and the best may be yet to come. Fans will be hoping for more films from John in the coming years.
