Jet2 has scrapped two of its summer 2025 routes from the UK due to a lack of customer interest, despite only announcing them half a year ago. The airline announced it's cancelling the Manchester and Birmingham flights to Salerno, renowned for its proximity to the beautiful Amalfi Coast after package bookings fell short. These services were first announced back in August 2024. Salerno itself is a historical port city to Naples' southeast, serving as a hub to 's picturesque destinations like the Amalfi Coast, Paestum, and Pompei.

Alongside axing these routes, Jet2 is boosting the frequency of its Naples flights. Since January 1, 2024, has introduced over 40 new routes covering Southern and Northern Africa, yet has had to cancel upwards of six since the same date. Aviation expert Anton Radchenko, founder of AirAdvisor, said: "Jet2 has consistently been one of the most punctual airlines in the UK, so with these cancellations, passengers will have to explore other options such as easyJet and Ryanair, which are not at par with Jet2's on-time performance.

"Plus, Amalfi Coast, one of the most popular European beach destinations, is closer to Salerno than Naples. With a difference of nearly 60 kms, passengers will take an hour extra, while paying higher on-ground costs.

"However, on the positive side, Naples offers more flight options and is a larger hub, making it more appealing for travellers with flexible itineraries."

Although these routes have not yet been launched, their cancellation will have an immediate impact on UK travellers seeking convenient access to the Amalfi Coast through Jet2's holiday packages, which offer a combination of flights, accommodation, and transfers, according to .

According to the travel expert, this decision mirrors wider industry patterns, as airlines often modify their routes in response to shifts in demand.

Radchenko advised to book early whenever a new route is announced, or the airlines will scrap it later citing low interest. He emphasised that airlines' decisions are driven by demand, so being proactive is essential.

With Jet2 expanding its routes to Naples, it is advised to book as soon as possible, ideally within days of the announcement, to avoid potential inconvenience later.

He also pointed out that since other airlines are still operating flights to Salerno, the competition will likely push Jet2 to offer competitive prices for flights to Naples, which will ultimately benefit passengers.

A spokesperson commented: "As a successful business, we are continually reviewing our flying programme and will make adjustments where required. This gives us the ability to add flights and holidays in response to demand, and very occasionally we may withdraw flights too.

"Following this latest review, we have taken the decision to withdraw services to Salerno Airport from Birmingham and Manchester Airports. Where customers are affected, we will contact them to let them know their options which include travelling via Naples Airport, rebooking, or receiving a full refund.

"With a fantastic programme of services to Naples Airport from seven UK bases, including Birmingham and Manchester, we know that customers and independent travel agents still have superb choice when it comes to accessing the region."
