Sky Sports presenter Emma Saunders has shared the news that she has been suffering from a brain infection after receiving treatment for cancer.

Saunders has been battling thyroid cancer, forcing her to sit out work during the early part of the 2024-25 season.. And now she has issued an update.

"Hi folks... unfortunately life took a bit of an unexpected turn a couple of weeks ago and I’m now off work while I recover from Encephalitis - an infection of the brain," Saunders wrote on . "I hope it wont be long until I’m back to see out the end of 2024/25 – especially after missing part of the start of the season before this when I was treated for Thyroid cancer.
"So, as I spend time now recovering and rebuilding - I just wanted to thank my family & friends for their rock solid support, my colleagues at Sky for their patience allowing me the time to heal, and our wonderful for their extraordinary kindness and care." She also thanked her partner, football manager Will Still, "just for being you & being there for me".

Fellow presenter Pien Meulensteen said: "Oh Emma, wishing you a speedy recovery and sending lots of love."

Soccer Saturday host replied: "So sorry to hear you’ve gone through this Emma. You’re missed! Look after yourself and hope you’re feeling much better soon x"

Former striker turned pundit Chris Iwelumo said: "Sending love and positivity Emma, get well soon!" Ex-Tottenham goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes posted: "Oh Emma sorry to hear this,my prayers are for you to be 100% fine very soon ."

Saunders has been a regular figure on Sky Sports' football coverage, often involved in EFL broadcasts. She has also been involved in broadcasts, including spending time interviewing top players.

Her relationship with Still , with the pair since sharing photos of one another on social media. Still, who burst onto the scene during a spell in charge of Reims, is now at fellow Ligue 1 club Lens.

Saunders' fellow broadcaster Becky Ives was another to share a message of support. "Oh my goodness! Im so sorry to read this!" she wrote. "Sending you so much love & wishing you a speedy recovery!"

"Oh my gosh Emma," Sky Sports News mainstay Hayley McQueen wrote. "So shocked to read this but sending much love to you & hoping you’re back on our screen soon!!! Lots of love x"

Former Premier League striker and Soccer Saturday pundit Clinton Morrison was another to show Saunders support. "Sending you love", the Irish international's message read.
