New Delhi: England batsman Harry Brook has been suspended for two years from the Indian Premier League (IPL). Now he will not be able to participate in this prestigious league before the 2027 season. The decision taken by the BCCI came when Brook withdrew his name from the upcoming IPL 2025 citing personal reasons.
According to information received by a senior BCCI official, the board recently implemented a new rule, under which no foreign player will be allowed to withdraw from the tournament after being purchased in the auction. If a player withdraws the name just before the tournament starts, he will be banned from playing in the IPL for two years. According to reports, this rule was implemented on the demand of franchise teams, as especially England players often moved away from the tournament at the last minute, which had to change the strategy for the teams.
In the IPL 2024 auction, Delhi Capitals bought Harry Brook for Rs 6.25 crore. However, when the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) contacted the BCCI and reported the withdrawal of Brook's name, the Indian board obeyed the rules and imposed a two -year ban on them.
Harry Brook's name has been recorded as the first player to not follow this new rule of IPL. With this decision, strict message has also been given to other foreign players that they cannot decide to withdraw before the season starts after participating in the tournament.
