A mysterious object in a remote mountainous area of New Mexico has piqued the curiosity of eagle-eyed Maps users.

Located at coordinates 34°24'21.6"N 107°05'44.5"W, the object is a large white disk emerging from the ground. It is situated in the Sierra Ladrones, a secluded area with no nearby roads or homes, at an elevation of about 7,400 feet.

Historical images from Google Maps show the disk first appeared in 2003. Photos from 2013 reveal that while it hasn’t been overtaken by vegetation, the object has sustained some damage. By 2017, overgrowth had concealed part of the disk.

Speculation about the disk’s origin has run wild among users. Some have suggested it could be the remnant of a crashed or even an entrance to a hidden underground hangar. Others believe it might be an old water reservoir or an observatory.

In August, YouTuber MrMBB333 uploaded a video where he explored the site via Google Maps. "This is a very remote location, nothing going on up here," he remarked, speculating that the disk may have "crash-landed" on the mountain. He estimated the disk’s size to be around 30 feet in diameter.

While many online are quick to jump to extraterrestrial conclusions, some have offered more grounded explanations. A user on Metabunk, a website dedicated to investigating unusual claims, pointed out that the object is likely a rainwater catchment system.

Images dating back to 1975 show an empty site where the disk now lies, and a path leading to it from a clearing.

"From a quick search there appears to have been a structure built on that exact spot from at least the 1975 so it seems unlikely anything coincidentally 'crashed' there," the MetaBunk user said.

It comes after Peter Farrelly, a Golden Globe-winning filmmaker, with a "football-field sized" during a Halloween night in 1975. Known for his work on the 2018 film Green Book starring Viggo Mortensen, Farrelly was speaking on the Kevin Pollak Chat Show when he detailed the chilling incident that occurred while he was driving home from the University of Rhode Island at 3am.

He said: "All of a sudden, as it's coming up on us, suddenly, it's a massive thing. I will say, okay, it's rectangular like, it's hard to say how big it is because you can't tell how high it is, but it seems to be a few hundred yards up.

"Maybe it's 1000ft up – It's not that high, but it's rectangular shape and and the lights are going back like sideways.

"All of a sudden, as it's coming up on us, suddenly, it's a massive thing. And it is a rectangular shape craft. I will say, okay, it's rectangular like, it's hard to say how big it is because you can't tell how high it is, but it seems to be a few hundred yards up."

He continued: "I'm telling you, it's right out of . You know, when you see the thing come over you and it just keeps going, and I'm looking up at it like 'what...' And I remember my legs...went weak. They were completely rubbery. Like I remember pushing my foot on the gas and it was an effort – I literally lost all the blood in my leg somehow."
