It's fair to say that nobody wants to get into their homes.

But, even though many of us may think our are safe and secure, there are some "sneaky" ways they can get in. One of the most common ways they can invade may actually blow your mind.

Garage door corners are said to be "one of the top" ways the make their way into your house. They can gain entry by squeezing through, and the same goes for mice.

According to How To Stop Mice on , if your garage door isn't properly adjusted, it has the potential to land you in a spot of bother. If you ensure the door is in the correct place, and cover up the gaps, it should help to avoid the problem.

Many people couldn't believe they can get in so easily though. When it comes to pest prevention, it turns out we aren't all as clued up as we think.

How rats can enter via door corners

Rats can enter properties by using garage door corners. This is because there are gaps at the bottom where the door threshold joins with the corner frame.

Not to mention, they are also able to chew through soft materials such as rubber seals. Rats have the ability to squeeze through even really small gaps.

This means, if a garage door seal isn't tight, or if you spot openings where the door meets the frame, they can easily find a way to get in. Generally, rubber is often used to seal a garage door.

As the material is quite light, rodents are sometimes able to chew through it. Subsequently, they'll be able to find their way inside.

How to prevent the problem

If you want to limit the chances of rats getting into your home through garage door corners then you need to seal the entry points. Secure the seals and make sure there aren't any visible gaps.

Make sure you inspect the door frame well, and ensure there are no cracks, holes or gaps in the frame, floor or walls. Especially pay attention to the corners.

You can use a few things to try and fill the gaps. Some methods include using weather-resistant caulk or sealant or using steel wool to fill small holes. You can seal this with caulk or spray foam.

Another idea is to try putting metal flashing at the bottom and sides of wooden garage doors to aid the problem. If, however, you're worried that rats have entered the property, it's best to seek the advice of a pest control expert.
