Ramzan is the holy month of Islam. This month is also associated with ceasefire, but the first war of Islam 'Jang-e-Badr' took place in this month. It took place on the 17th of Ramzan month in 2 Hijri, in which 313 Muslims defeated more than 1000 enemies. This victory played an important role in the spread of Islam and changing the image of Prophet Hazrat Mohammad Saheb. The reason behind this war was the atrocities of the people of Mecca and the order of Allah.
2 Hijri and 9th month of Islamic calendar, Ramzan… This is the year when fasting and zakat became compulsory for Muslims. This is the year when Prophet Hazrat Mohammad offered Eid-ul-Fitr namaz in Eidgah. This was the year in which the first war of Islam also took place. The 'Battle of Badr' was fought on the 17th of Ramzan. But what is this? War in the month of Ramzan! And that too of Islam… This is a surprising question because Muslims do not fight any war in the month of Ramzan.
Even today, Islamic countries declare ceasefire in the month of Ramzan, so what was the reason for the first war of Islam to be fought in the month of Ramzan? Let's find out… The first war of Islam took place in a field near Badr village, so it was named 'Jang-e-Badr'. This area is about 80 miles away from Medina. There is a well in this village, whose owner's name was Badr, due to which the village was named Badr. In the Battle of Badr, the number of Muslims was about 313 and the enemy army had 1000 armed soldiers.
Islamic history had changed
The Battle of Badr changed Islamic history and the life of Prophet Muhammad. A famous Western historian writes that before the Battle of Badr, Arabs considered Prophet Muhammad a weak man, who was expelled from Mecca by his own people and they thought that he was asking for help from others. But after the Battle of Badr, Prophet Muhammad became famous in the whole of Arabia as a king and military engineer. Because, he defeated an army three times bigger than his own.
The enemies had crossed the limits of cruelty
Allama Abdul Mustafa Azmi writes in his book Sirat Mustafa that for about 10 years after becoming a prophet, Prophet Mohammad did not receive any message from Allah about any kind of war or revenge. On the other hand, the people of Mecca crossed all limits of cruelty against Prophet Hazrat Mohammad and his Muslim companions, but he never took up arms against it. After that, on the 12th of Safar, the second month of 2 Hijri, the angel Jibraeel Alaihissalam came to Prophet Mohammad with a message from Allah and recited the verse about fighting against cruelty.
Hijrat from Mecca to Medina
When the people of Quraish persecuted Prophet Hazrat Mohammad and his Muslim companions in Mecca, they along with their companions migrated to Medina. Earlier, many of his companions had migrated. After that Prophet Hazrat Mohammad and Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddiq (RA) migrated. The people of Mecca treated the Muslims who migrated very badly. They looted all their belongings. They damaged their houses. They even attacked Prophet Hazrat Mohammad's house to kill him. Amidst all this, the Muslims reached Medina facing many difficulties. Meanwhile, the Muslims started planning to get their property back from their enemies.
The war was postponed many times, then…
Before the Battle of Badr, there were many occasions when conditions for war arose, but every time the war was averted due to some reason or the other. 2 Hijri, the seventh month of Rajab. In this month Abu Sufyan left Mecca with a caravan for Sham. Prophet Muhammad and his companions present in Medina got the news of this. On their return, they planned to loot the caravan and get their wealth back and take revenge. For this, they sent a group of 8 or 12 people with Hazrat Abdullah bin Jahsh, who had to stay in Nakhla and keep an eye on the enemies.
This is how the situation of war started developing
Allama Abdul Mustafa Azmi writes that when they stayed in Nakhla, another convoy reached Nakhla from Mecca. Seeing that convoy, Hazrat Abdullah bin Jahsh got scared. He thought that news of his plan might reach Mecca. He attacked that convoy with arrows. In this attack, Umar bin Hazrami, who was part of the Mecca convoy, died. When the people of Quraish in Mecca came to know about this, they became angry and started preparing to take revenge from the Muslims.
A message to loot the caravan was sent to Mecca
Meanwhile, Abu Sufyan's caravan left for Mecca from the country of Sham, which had 50 thousand gold coins and all kinds of goods. They had to pass through Medina to reach Mecca. Meanwhile, the Muslims in Medina were ready to take revenge by looting this caravan. Meanwhile, they had no intention of fighting.
Abu Sufyan, who was leading this convoy, got wind of this and was worried that if he went this way, the Muslims would not spare him. Meanwhile, the convoy's route was changed and a letter was sent to Mecca that the Meccans should reach the convoy as soon as possible to help.
Abu Jahal prepared an army of 1000 enemies
The man who was sent to Mecca, after reaching there, went near Kaaba and cut off the ears and nose of his camel and tore his clothes and started screaming loudly for help. This used to be their emergency call in those times. Here, the Muslims had already set out to stop the convoy. On the other hand, the people of Mecca were ready to take revenge from the Muslims.
Abu Jahal, the biggest enemy of Muslims, asked the person giving the emergency information how many Muslims were there? The answer was 313, Abu Jahal formed an army of 1000 people for them. He asked the number of horses and camels, in which it was told that Muslims have 2 horses and 70 camels. Abu Jahal arranged for 100 horses and hundreds of camels.
Abu Jahal set out with the intention of war
Abu Jahal set out with his army with the intention of fighting. Here, Abu Sufyan took his convoy away from the main road and the convoy escaped from the Muslims. After this, there was no need for the Muslims to fight because the convoy was saved. But Abu Jahal said that even if the convoy escapes, we will not spare these Muslims because we have three people to kill each of their men.
Prophet Muhammad camped in the plains of Badr
Prophet Hazrat Mohammad came to know about this. He ordered his army to go and camp near the first well of Badr. On this, a companion came and asked 'O Rasul Allah, have you chosen this place on the advice of Allah or after consultation?' On this, Prophet Hazrat Mohammad said that we have chosen it after consultation. On hearing this, the companion said that if we go ahead and camp, there is more water there and we will also be able to stop the enemies from capturing these wells. Prophet Hazrat Mohammad liked this advice very much and the entire army moved from this place to this place at midnight.
The war started, Muslims adopted a defensive strategy
The next day, Abu Jahal's army also reached there, which was three times bigger than the Muslims. He challenged the Muslims for a war. After the challenge, three Ansar boys came from the Muslims' side. After that Hazrat Hamza, Hazrat Ubaida and Hazrat Ali Raziallahu Anhu came forward and the fight began. Hazrat Ubaida was injured in this war. Here, the Muslims knew that their army was very small compared to the enemy, so they prepared a defensive strategy.

The enemy army was forced to retreat
As a part of strategy, Muslims planned that they will not move from their place, the enemy will come and attack them on their own. Along with this, Abu Jahal ordered to attack with full force. He was hoping that Muslims were in less number, he will finish them soon and return. But this did not happen. Muslims stood at their place and kept facing the enemies and in place of every Muslim, five enemies started dying.
Seeing this the enemy army retreated. Meanwhile the Muslims changed their positions. The Muslims who were fighting standing in the front, moved back and those who were completely fresh came forward. Abu Jahl again ordered to attack with full force, but the same thing happened again and the enemy army started retreating.
Abu Jahal was killed, Muslims won the war
This time the Muslims attacked them and the enemy army started running away from Badr. In this war, the leader of the enemy convoy Abu Jahal and 70 enemies were killed. Apart from these, 70 enemies were captured. In the Battle of Badr, 14 companions were martyred from the Muslim side. This war established Prophet Hazrat Mohammad as a powerful king in the entire Arab world. Because, the whole of Arabia considered Quraish as their leader. But now the Quraish of Mecca were defeated by only 313 Muslims. And in this way, the first battle of Islam 'Battle of Badr' took place in the month of Ramzan.
