Defending champion Kolkata Knight Riders on Wednesday released its retro kit from the inaugural edition of the Indian Premier League. The black-and-gold jersey, initially made by Reebok, had been a fan favourite before the franchise decided to take up purple-gold threads in 2010.

However, all sizes of the jersey, priced at ₹1,499, were sold out in under 10 minutes from the official store. Whether the shirt will be restocked is yet to be known. But going by the raging demand, the kit should reappear on the website soon.

As of writing, only the kids’ version was still up for sale.

Over the past few seasons, fans have been continuously bombarding the franchise with requests to re-release its jersey from the 2008 edition. There were a few rumours floating about the same last season itself when an unknown fan edited the classic black-and-gold jersey on Phil Salt.

This season, the murmurs became louder when social media posts featuring Rinku Singh and Manish Pandey in the old jersey during a photoshoot went viral.

And finally, during Knights Unplugged 2.0, the event that concluded the team’s trophy tour, KKR finally released the much-awaited kit.

The shirt is also set to feature the golden IPL crest, a feature made exclusive for title holders this season onwards. If the jersey does make a comeback, fans can buy it from the Knight Club app, KKR’s official website or Fancode.
