New Delhi. Nitin Gadkari Lok Sabha: Toll is often charged while traveling on highways. So sometimes the toll is cut twice, sometimes even if you do not pass through the toll, you get a message from somewhere that the money has been deducted from your fastag. This money should be reported incorrectly deducted. If you do this, then you are likely to get your money back. In 2024, refund has been given in 12.55 lakh cases.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari gave a written answer to a question in the Lok Sabha. In this, if the toll agency incorrectly deducts the toll, then a fine of 1,500 times the amount of additional user fee will be imposed. According to the NHAI report, the money was refunded in a total of 12.55 lakh cases due to wrong toll cuts in 2024.
Gadkari claimed that out of a total of 410 crore fastag transactions this year, the number of cases of incorrect deduction was only 0.03 percent. Toll agencies have been fined more than Rs 2 crore so far in cases of wrong toll cuts. There were 4.45 lakh cases in refund cases in which the fastag was not read, but the money was deducted. Apart from this, 1.36 lakh cases were of duplicate deductions. Return travel benefits were not provided in 1.25 lakh cases. Payment in 47,000 cases was made through other means.
According to Gadkari's claim, if a toll is charged from a vehicle without crossing the toll plaza, then a fine of one lakh rupees is imposed on the toll agency concerned. Gadkari himself once admitted in a reply given in the Lok Sabha that there are many issues on toll plaza, employees dissatisfaction etc. where the rules are not being followed. He also promised to improve it. Many of these problems still remain today.
