are not only unsightly but also very unpleasant to use, especially after a nice, relaxing shower. Over time, towels can become coarse due to detergent and fabric softener buildup, making them feel far less luxurious.
But according to fans of the cleaning guru, Sophie Hinchliffe - best known as - there's an easy way to bring them back to life with just one wash. A simple ingredient you likely already have sitting in your kitchen cupboard can effortlessly revive them in no time. Members of the Facebook group Mrs Hinch's Hacks began raving about this easy method after one user asked: "How do people wash and dry towels to keep them soft and fluffy?"
The answer was overwhelmingly straightforward, with many swearing by a common household staple: white vinegar.
According to cleaning enthusiasts, is the secret to softening rough, stiff towels.
One user shared: "Use white vinegar instead of fabric conditioner. Gives fluffy, soft towels."
Another agreed, saying: "White vinegar instead of conditioner! Really makes your towels fluffy again."
The reason this method works so well lies in vinegar's natural acidity. Unlike fabric softeners, which can leave a residue that actually makes towels feel rough over time, vinegar helps break down detergent buildup and restores the fabric's natural softness.
One person explained: "I use white vinegar in the rinse cycle. It takes out any residue left in your towels and fluffs them up. If you use this method you'll have no more crunchy towels."
To try this for yourself, simply replace the fabric softener with white vinegar in the detergent drawer and run a hot water cycle. This helps open up the towel fibres for better absorption.
Once washed, dry them on a low to medium heat setting in the tumble dryer so they are ready to use in a couple of hours.
If towels still feel stiff, a second wash with baking soda in the detergent drawer can help remove any remaining buildup.
And just like that, you can enjoy soft, fluffy towels again for a fraction of the cost of buying brand-new ones.
