Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Haven’t paid your overdue power bills? Act now and pay. Otherwise, electricity employees will reach your doorstep and seize your vehicle. That’s what employees of Madhya Pradesh West Zone Electricity Company are doing these days. They are seizing vehicles of electricity bill defaulters.

In a strong move to recover outstanding power bills, West Discom has begun seizing the vehicles of defaulters across Malwa-Nimar region. A large-scale recovery drive is underway in all 15 districts under the jurisdiction of West Discom, including Indore, Ujjain, Dewas, Dhar, Ratlam and Shajapur.

The company is targeting old defaulters in both residential and industrial sectors, aiming for full recovery of unpaid bills before the end of the current financial year. On Sunday, nearly 4,500 personnel participated in the operation spreading across more than 400 zones and distribution centers, including 64 zones within Indore district. As part of the ongoing effort, the company has been actively seizing vehicles, including tractors and motorcycles, from defaulters.

In the past week alone, 300 vehicles have been confiscated as part of the recovery process. According to the company management, the goal is to collect at least Rs 200 crore in outstanding payments by the end of March. The ambitious target is being pursued through intensive campaigns designed to reach every outstanding account.

In addition to vehicle seizures, over 5,000 electricity connections are being disconnected daily for non-payment. West Discom has urged consumers with unpaid bills to settle their dues promptly in order to avoid further unpleasant consequences.

The ongoing recovery efforts aim to resolve outstanding domestic, non-domestic, and industrial electricity bills as the company works toward ensuring 100 per cent recovery by the end of the month. "With the clock ticking down to the end of the fiscal year, the company is determined to bring all defaulters to account- urging residents to act now before their vehicles or power supply are at risk of being seized," West Discom managing director Anoop Kumar Singh said.
