Near KR Puram Station, a crucial interchange station that links the Purple and Blue Lines, Namma Metro of Bengaluru intends to construct an 11-story parking structure.
According to the Deccan Herald, the idea would be implemented as a component of a larger property development project aimed at increasing non-fare income.
The study states that the 11-story parking structure, which would have two basements and a ground level, will be constructed around 50 meters from the KR Metro Station.
According to BMRCL’s Deputy Chief Engineer (Property Development Division), Raghavendra Rao, “A public-private partnership (PPP) will be used to develop the project for 30 years.”
According to rumors, two basements would house parking spots, while the top floors may be utilized for commercial areas, including retail stores, office buildings, and shopping malls. Rao claims that the BMRCL anticipates receiving at least Rs 2 crore in yearly license fees in addition to Rs 10 crore in non-refundable upfront revenue from the project.
It should be mentioned that Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) owns a 1.66-acre (6,730-square-meter) piece of property close to the intersection of the Outer Ring Road and Old Madras Road in the eastern part of the city.
Soon after the Blue Line (Silk Board-KR Puram-Airport) opens in 2027, the project should be completed.
The KR Puram parking structure will be Namma Metro’s second-largest when it is finished. Parking is already available at the Majestic and KR Pura metro stations. KR Pura has 1,750 square meters of area that could house 530 two-wheelers, while Majestic has 1,500 square meters that could hold 36 automobiles and 260 two-wheelers.
Given the recent outcry over the service fee increases, the initiative is a major step to increase non-fare profits.
