Is Virat Kohli going to be the first active Indian player to ply his trade in a foreign league? Well, Sydney Sixers made a major announcement on April 1 claiming that they have signed the star batter for the next two seasons of the Big Bash League on their official X account.

Kohli has been a stalwart in the Indian Premier League (IPL), being the highest run-getter in the history of the tournament with 8094 runs so far with 8 hundreds and 56 fifties to his name. Indian players aren't allowed to play in foreign leagues like the BBL until they have retired, but the tweet from the Sixers created some frenzy on Tuesday morning.

"King Kohli! Virat Kohli is officially a Sixer for the next TWO seasons!" read the tweet from Sixers.

However, the Sixers themselves revealed that this was a prank by them to celebrate April Fools' day soon after.

The fans responded to the post and appreciated the humour from the 3-time BBL champions. If the move were to happen in real life, it would have seen Kohli become a teammate of Steve Smith, who has been one of the key players for the Sixers in recent times.

Kohli off to fine start for RCB in IPL 2025

Kohli has made a fine start to life in IPL 2025 as RCB currently sit at the top of the points table. RCB started their campaign with a convincing win over defending champions KKR, where Kohli scored an unbeaten 59 to get his side home.

The second match was a mixed bag for the star batter as he struggled to find rhythm against Chennai Super Kings at the Chepauk. Kohli scored 31 off 30 balls, but it was a good knock at the end of the day as Bengaluru defeated Chennai by 50 runs to claim a rare win at the Chepauk.

Kohli and RCB will be back in action on April 2 as they face GT at home.
