Dying For Sex is now ready to watch but what became of Nikki Boyer, the steadfast best friend of Molly Kochan?
released all eight episodes of Dying For Sex on Friday, April 4, centring on the final chapter of Molly Kochan's (portrayed by Michelle Williams) life following her terminal cancer diagnosis.
Upon receiving the devastating news, Molly decides to leave her husband Steve (Jay Duplass) after 15 years of marriage to explore her sexuality, with unwavering support from her best friend Nikki Boyer (Jenny Slate).
Nikki steps in to manage Steve's daily responsibilities, including hospital visits, medication schedules and managing the myriad symptoms that accompany treatment. However, it soon becomes clear that the burden of caring for her friend is taking a toll on Nikki.
Despite the challenges, Nikki stays by Molly's side through thick and thin as Molly navigates how best to spend her remaining days.
Where is Nikki Boyer now?
In the months leading up to Molly's passing in 2019 at the age of 45, she and Nikki documented their conversations about her experiences.
These discussions would later form part of the podcast Dying For Sex, which premiered posthumously on Wondery in 2020 with Nikki serving as its host.
Following its launch, Dying For Sex was awarded the 2021 Amie Award for Podcast of the Year and was listed among Apple's favourite podcasts in 2020.
While It Ends With Us star Jenny Slate portrays Nikki on screen, the real Nikki has been busy behind the scenes, working as an executive producer on Dying For Sex.
Throughout the coronavirus pandemic, Nikki kept spirits high by hosting nearly 200 episodes of Wondery's feel-good podcast The Daily Smile and kicked off Call Me Curious, a quirky "light-hearted investigative series" exploring unconventional subjects.
She's also known for co-hosting the hit weekly podcast Straight Talk With Ross Mathews.
On top of her audio ventures, Nikki founded the audio-centric media company Dying For Media and, alongside Kevin Sabbe, co-created and co-executive produced Step Girlfriends, a show inspired by her life and snapped up by CBS Studios.
The seasoned 49-year-old presenter made waves as the host of Yahoo!'s Daytime in No Time, becoming "making her the most watched woman on the web with over 700 million clicks during her time there".
What might come as a surprise to fans is Nikki's guest appearance in Dying For Sex as "cousin Sheila" in the fifth episode of the Disney+ drama.
In a 2023 interview with Tink Media, Nikki reflected: "Working with Molly forever changed my life and my world.
"Having a front row seat during her brave battle, and being allowed to tell her story was the most meaningful experience of my career.
"Dying for Sex deepened my love of storytelling, and pushed me to create content that is both meaningful and entertaining."
Dying For Sex is available to watch on Disney+.
